We're proud that so many Montanans personally engage in green habits: commuting by bicycle, recycling and reusing, and making energy-efficient improvements to their homes. Inspired by the integrity of our citizens, state agencies and universities are joining in the same kinds of sustainable efforts. Initiatives like 20x10, which challenges state agencies to cut power use 20% by 2010, and The Green Thread, which infuses college curriculum with relevant sustainability topics, demonstrate Montana's institutional-level commitment to energy conservation and an ecologically sound future.

20x10

This year, Governor Schweitzer presented the 20x10 Initiative, asking state agencies to reduce their power usage 20% by 2010. 20x10 inspires agencies to make the kinds of cost-effective, power-saving changes that Montana's citizens already have: getting an energy audit, purchasing energy appliances and building improvements, and powering down equipment and lights when not in use. Not only will the initiative save power, but also carbon emissions and money spent on electricity bills.
